Casper Liquid Staking Open Beta Playbook

Welcome to the Casper Liquid Staking Open Beta!

This program allows you to experience the power of liquid staking on the Casper Testnet before it launches on Mainnet. By participating, you'll be among the first to test this exciting new feature, provide valuable feedback, and help ensure a smooth and successful Mainnet launch.

What is Liquid Staking?

Liquid staking is a new way to stake your cryptocurrency. Traditionally, staked tokens are locked and cannot be used for other purposes. With liquid staking, you receive a token that represents your staked assets. This token can be used in decentralized finance (DeFi) applications, allowing you to earn additional rewards while still securing the network.

Liquid Staking on Casper

Casper’s liquid staking is built directly into the blockchain. This native approach removes the need for third-party platforms, offering a more secure and seamless experience. When you stake your CSPR tokens, you receive sCSPR (staked CSPR), which you can then use across the Casper ecosystem.

This playbook guides you through using the liquid staking platform on the Casper Testnet. Follow the steps, test all the features, and share your feedback.

Getting Started: Your Testnet Wallet and CSPR

Before testing, you’ll need Casper Wallet and Testnet CSPR tokens.

  • If you don’t have Casper Wallet yet, follow the Casper Wallet Getting Started Guide
  • Get free Testnet CSPR tokens from the Faucet. Connect your account to CSPR.live, request tokens, and wait for them to appear in your wallet.

Step-by-Step Guide to Testing Liquid Staking

  • Connect Your Wallet
  • Stake Your CSPR
    • Enter the amount of CSPR to stake.
    • Review the estimated sCSPR you’ll receive.
    • Click “Stake” and confirm the transaction.
    • Your sCSPR balance will update once complete.
  • Unstake Your sCSPR
    • Enter the amount of sCSPR to unstake.
    • Review the estimated CSPR you’ll receive.
    • Click “Unstake” and confirm.
    • Note: There is a 7-era (~16 hours) unstaking period.
  • Withdraw Your Unstaked CSPR
    • After the waiting period, check the “Withdrawable” section.
    • Click “Withdraw” and confirm the transaction.
  • Explore the Platform
    • Stake and unstake different amounts.
    • Try invalid actions (e.g., unstaking more than you own).
    • Observe metrics like Total Value Locked, sCSPR Minted, Estimated APY.
    • Record transaction hashes for feedback.
  • Understanding Key Metrics

    • Total Value Locked: Total amount of CSPR staked in liquid staking.
    • sCSPR Minted: Total sCSPR tokens issued.
    • Estimated APY: Current annual yield for staking.
    • Exchange Rate: Conversion rate between sCSPR and CSPR (e.g., 1 sCSPR = 1.0059 CSPR).

The exchange rate rises over time as rewards accumulate. APY is dynamic and usually lower on Testnet.

What to Look For During Testing

    • User Interface: Is it intuitive and clear?
    • Transaction Processing: Do transactions complete successfully?
    • Balance Updates: Do balances update correctly?
    • Timing: Are transactions processed quickly?
    • Error Handling: What errors appear, and under what conditions?
  • Troubleshooting Common Issues

    • Wallet not connecting: Refresh and ensure you’re on Testnet.
    • Insufficient balance: Get more Testnet CSPR from the Faucet.
    • Failed transaction: Check for gas fees and available balance.
    • Unstaking delay: Remember the 7-era (~16 hours) wait.
