Recap of the Special X (Twitter) Space with Paris Blockchain Week & Killer Whales: ‘Revolutionizing Blockchain with Casper’

Over the next 3 days, Casper will be at Paris Blockchain Week 2024, one of Europe’s most prominent blockchain-focused events where innovators, entrepreneurs, and developers meet to collaborate, share insights, and shape the future of Web3. On March 26th, 2024, Paris Blockchain Week hosted an exclusive X Space featuring an insightful conversation with Casper Association Ecosystem Director Alizee Carli and Sander Gortjes, Executive Producer at Killer Whales TV show. The session provided insights into the intersection of blockchain technology and entertainment.

This recap is intended for those who missed the call or would like to revisit it and be provided with the latest updates on Casper.

You can access the recordings of this space on Paris Blockchain Week’s X (Twitter) account.

Q&A with Casper and Killer Whales

Simon Buckingham (PBW): Considering Casper's unique offerings, particularly focusing on smart contracts' upgradability and the management flexibility they offer, how these technical capabilities could enable innovation and broader blockchain adoption across industries?

Alizee Carli (Casper Association): Upgradability isn't just about technical enhancements; it's crucial for adapting to changing business landscapes and regulatory environments. By allowing for the versioning of smart contracts, Casper ensures that blockchain applications can grow and adapt without the rigidity typically associated with blockchain technology.

Casper also offers advanced account management features which allow more control over who can execute, edit, or interact with smart contracts. This level of granularity in permissions is crucial for deploying sophisticated and secure applications in sectors where precision and reliability are needed, such as in finance and capital markets. Establishing standards for token deployment to create a unified approach to represent assets on the blockchain, and facilitating wider adoption and integration are also among Casper’s key focus areas.

Sander Gortjes (Killer Whales): Killer Whales was conceived as a platform to introduce blockchain for a massive audience through entertainment. Observing the industry's focus on scaling technology for mass adoption, we saw an opportunity to blend our television production expertise with blockchain's innovative edge. Killer Whales aims to offer viewers an engaging way to understand and interact with blockchain projects.

The show targets a broad audience, aiming to clarify misconceptions and reveal the practical benefits of blockchain technology in a format that's both informative and enjoyable.

Simon Buckingham (PBW): What could enhance the understanding of blockchain technology, not just for the general public but on an enterprise level as well? I am curious about what's missing in current efforts to educate enterprises about blockchain solutions and integration.

Alizee Carli (Casper Association): The dual approach of serious educational content and engaging entertainment is essential for blockchain adoption. With that being said, we are already using blockchain in our daily lives without even noticing it. For example, customs data in Dubai are recorded on the blockchain, showcasing a practical application where the blockchain operates invisibly to users, enhancing processes without their active engagement. Blockchain is already started to integrate seamlessly into everyday activities, providing a model for how blockchain's value can be communicated to a broader audience, including enterprises.

While some applications might benefit from making the blockchain aspect invisible, others, like in gaming, could gain from users knowing they're interacting with blockchain technologies, emphasizing the importance of self-custody wallets and the inherent value of blockchain for transparency and decentralization.

Sander Gortjes (Killer Whales): Entertainment could serve as a powerful vehicle to popularize blockchain among the masses. I recall the moment of clarity in Dubai, witnessing the concerted effort to prepare blockchain infrastructure for mass adoption, which influenced our approach to Killer Whales. By creating a crypto reality TV show, we aimed to provide a platform for blockchain projects and innovations to be showcased understandably and engagingly. Our endeavor seeks to bridge the gap between complex blockchain technologies and the general public, making the innovative world of web3 accessible and appealing to everyone.

Seohee Lee (PBW): What do you think about blockchain's potential to bring meaningful changes globally, particularly in real-world applications like healthcare, energy, and token utility? What aspects of blockchain technology excite you the most in terms of solving real-world problems or improving various sectors?

Alizee Carli (Casper Association): I think it’s not right to narrow blockchain down to specific verticals due to the technology's early stage and evolving ecosystem. Healthcare is an example where early blockchain applications are still in a proof of concept phase. There is a need for a comprehensive ecosystem of tools and infrastructure to fully realize blockchain applications in various sectors.

The application of NFTs in enhancing brand engagement and customer loyalty is particularly thrilling, given the potential of NFT standards to revolutionize marketing strategies. AI certification is an area where blockchain can play a crucial role, offering transparency and accountability in AI model training and outputs and this is a key focus area of CasperLabs.

Sander Gortjes: The transformative impact of blockchain in healthcare is thanks to its capability to manage data privacy and patient-sensitive information securely. Blockchain could streamline the way governmental data is stored and accessed and ensure it's available when needed yet secure.

The rising importance of blockchain in managing and securing AI data points out the lack of transparency in current AI data usage. I see blockchain as a key to unlocking this transparency, particularly in fields like digital marketing, where understanding data flow and usage is crucial.
